World Heritage

Two pilgrimage routes and ten caves, all of them in Cantabria, are declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

The World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO, included the property «The Routes of Santiago de Compostela: Northern Spain» on the World Heritage List at its 39th session held in Bonn, Germany, in July 2015. In the case of Cantabria, the Lebaniego route, which connects the Way with the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana, is also recognized. The Northern Ways complement the so-called French Way, a World Heritage Site since 1993.
